Catholic Chicago: Story of an Exhibit
In 2002, the Chicago History Museum (CHM) initiated plans for a major exhibition titled Catholic Chicago. The project was tabled in the midst of massive building and gallery renovations, but was brought back on schedule in 2005 with the assignment of curator Jill Grannan and youth programs manager Marie Scatena. They were the first staff to re-engage with the community and lenders on the exhibition, which opened in March 2008. Here, Grannan and Scatena describe the process of bringing the long-anticipated exhibition to life through collections, media, and programs, and provide insights on religion-based projects for museums and educational institutions interested in producing their own.
